Yes! This truck really does get 50 miles per gallon! 2 years have been spent rebuilding and restoring to great condition. Thousands of dollars worth of new parts have been installed.
New floors were welded in, front drivers side fender is brand new and all body rust has been fixed. Any missing metal was welded in and the vehicle is very solid. Shock towers are solid as are all other body parts. Por 15 and rubberized undercoating were used extensively in the restoration. The truck bed has a sprayed in liner. The rear bumper is an after market towing bumper with a 2 inch ball and trailer electrical is installed. The truck was sprayed with Dupont Centauri paint. The truck was painted VW stock red; the original color was cream. The front grille is in excellent shape. The cap has been repainted. The rear window on the cap is not original but functions nicely.

The Engine has had many new/rebuilt parts installed very recently including a new rebuilt head, injector pump, glow plugs, injectors, timing belt, passenger side drive axle, new alternator, new high capacity oil pump, new radiator, battery, belts, hoses, gaskets, etc. Engine Runs Great! A recent compression check showed all cylinders at 410 psi and was verified by starting the engine on a cold day with the glow plugs disconnected! No leaks of any kind.

Interior: New carpet (yes New!), new headliner, new door panels and all other trim panels have been recovered. The seats have new covers and both seat belts work. All gauges work as do the wipers, horn, emergency flashers and heating system. The truck does not have Air Conditioning. Missing are the cigarette lighter and ashtray. The interior map light is not working due to a defective switch in the overhead light assembly. All glass is in good condition, no cracks.

Mechanics: New master brake cylinder, lines, parking brake cables and the brakes have been redone. The exhaust is completely new from the engine back. The shifter bushings and boot have been replaced. The truck has all new tires - Uniroyal Tiger Paws. The hubcaps are original VW with new mounting clips. The clutch is solid and should go for quite a while.

The original Fuel Tank developed a leak along the seam and was removed. It will be included in the sale. The tank currently in the bed of the truck is built for vegetable oil conversion - which was next on my list to do. The tank, manufactured by Greasel, has a built in heater that runs off the coolant hoses from the engine. Its sending unit is presently connected to the fuel gauge. Wiring is installed for a separate sending unit or electrical heater/pump. To convert to vegetable oil use, the original tank will need to be repaired and reinstalled. New tank straps are already on the truck. You will need to add the valve, filter and hoses for the auxiliary tank (about an afternoons worth of work and your 50 mpg truck will now run for FREE!) The vegetable oil tank fills easily from the drivers side cap sliding window. To accommodate the vegetable oil install, the windshield wiper fluid tank has not been installed. Hoses and tank will be included with the truck. The passenger door has a different key for locking; the ignition and drivers door is the same. Overall - This is a great vehicle! This truck is fun to drive. It does smoke a little bit after a cold start like all diesels do but runs clean after a minute or so. Anything that was worn or questionable was replaced. Please remember it is a 1982 truck, whoever gets this truck will be getting a fine vehicle and will get many, many miles out of it. BUYER PAYS SHIPPING, CHECKS MUST WAIT 10 DAYS BEFORE SHIPPING.
